Using the public for good

Very similar to what we talked about last week we are going to discuss how today's digital age allows historians to do things that past historians could never dream of. Today, any historians and others use the power of participation projects and crowd sourcing to collect information on a wide variety of things. You can create a participation project for really anything, if you have the means and ability to create a platform for this information than I am sure you could find ways to gather information.

An example of this is,  the Civil War Photo Sleuth , Virginia Tech professor Kurt Luther created this website to gather information on photos of Civil War soldiers that had no identification for said soldier. His goal is to find the names and stories of all of these Civil War soldiers and by posting these images online he hopes that someone will be able to shed some light on the mystery men. Millions of portraits were made during the Civil War, Kurt Luther wants to help paint an even bigger picture of the men who fought.

My final project is chugging along, I have begun tinkering with new blog page for me to post all of my information. Trying to find the perfect set up for conveying how important preservation is for your community is my ultimate goal, next is starting imputing information.
